SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR ABUSING TEENAGE BOY AND BREACHING TERMS OF SEXUAL HARM PREVENTION ORDER
A man from Andover has been sentenced after being convicted of sexually abusing a teenage boy.Matthew James Parker, aged 45 and residing on Picket Twenty Way, was found guilty of four charges related to sexual activity with a minor, with these offences occurring between May 2022 and April 2023.
Prior to his trial in March, Parker admitted to violating 15 different conditions of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, along with failing to follow his sexual offender notification obligations.
On Tuesday, 30 April, Winchester Crown Court sentenced Parker to a total of 14 years in prison, comprising up to nine years of incarceration and a further five years of extended license supervision.
The court also considered three additional breaches of his order and notification duties during sentencing.
It was revealed during the trial that in 2019, Parker had been convicted for attempting to arrange or facilitate a sexual offence against a child.
He received a suspended prison sentence and was subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Additionally, Parker was placed under indefinite sex offender notification requirements.
The court heard that on September 29, 2023, Parker completed a notification requirement at a police station.
During this process, it was noted that he had not disclosed new bank accounts within the required timeframe.
Subsequently, officers searched Parker’s home and arrested him.
They uncovered evidence of further breaches at his residence, including efforts to alter his name, travel abroad, open new bank accounts, and possession of internet-enabled devices.
The police also discovered evidence pointing to contact with a teenage boy.
Further inquiries confirmed that Parker sexually assaulted the boy on multiple occasions in 2022 and 2023.
